A UJI thesis defended by Joan Esteban Altabella has shown that the usage of construction and demolition waste in dumpsites could avoid the contamination of 515 million of tones of aggregates in the European Union.
The reusing of these residues as aggregates derivatives could reduce the environmental impact coming from the landfills and dumpsites and would produce incomes higher than 669 million of euros. All this data could be obtained using the calculation tool LabWaste.2020, developed in this thesis.B Defensa tesis
LabWaste.2020 determines the technical and economic feasibility of the use of construction and demolition waste in the design, operation and closure of dumpsites. In order to do that, this tool analyses the mathematical relations that define the dumpsite parameters. It can be used in the professional field for the design, operation and closing of these facilities as well as in the training field, as an educational tool for engineering students.
Joan Esteban Altabella defended this international thesis in June 22th and obtained the qualification of Summa cum laude. The thesis was co-supervised by Associate Professor Francisco José Colomer Mendoza and Professor Antonio Gallardo Izquierdo, both from INGRES group at the Department of Mechanical and Construction Engineering at Universitat Jaume I.
