McCormack Innovation is recognised as a Global Game-Changer and market disruptor with a suite of novel soluble textiles for the medical and personal care markets.
The Scottish-based, award-winning, innovation company has developed, what can only be described as, revolutionary technology for the future use of disposable wipes and Point-of-Care medical testing kits.
McCormack Innovation’s patent protected FlushAway™ soluble materials are set to take the worldwide market by storm.
Developed in partnership with key academic institutions, the company’s core range consists of three world first products:
FlushAway ™ Soluble Wipes – 100% environmentally friendly soluble wet wipes which dissolve in seconds when flushed away
FlushAway ™ Stool Collector – Assisting the early detection of Bowel Cancer
FlushAway ™ Wound Dressing – Soluble bandages for sensitive or damaged skin
Key Environmental Facts
- Wet wipes are the principal cause of 93% of blockages in UK sewers
- There are around 300,000 sewer blockages each year, costing the country in excess of £100m annually
- The largest ‘Fatberg’ (solid masses of fat, wet wipes and grease) found in the UK to date was an 820ft (250m) fatberg weighing 130 tonnes which blocked a Victorian-era sewer in east London in 2017 and took nine weeks to remove
- River-cleaning teams have found that the hundreds of thousands of wet wipes flushed down toilets in London have actually formed a new riverbed in the Thames
- The majority of wet wipes contain various synthetic and plastic fibres, which makes their disposability problematic and time consuming
- Some wet wipes could take as long as 100 years to biodegrade

FlushAway ™ products by McCormack Innovation are the culmination of years of research and development, by founders, Brian McCormack and Garry Crighton working in partnership with leading scientists at the University of Dundee and Heriot Watt University.
The company has successfully invented the world’s first 100% environmentally friendly soluble material that dissolves in seconds when immersed in water and flushed away.
The material is also biodegradable in landfill and leaves no harmful residue; making it suitable for both landfill and flushing.
Brian McCormack, Managing Director, McCormack Innovation said:
“This technology represents a game-changer for the world-wide market in disposable wipes. Citizens and industry alike are no longer willing to accept the catastrophic impact that conventional wet wipes are doing to the environment. Not only are they a marine pollutant and harmful to marine wildlife they are costing the global water industry billions each year through Fatbergs and sewer blockages.”
Brian added: “I am delighted to announce that after years of hard work we have invented these revolutionary products and are ready to take this to the market on a global scale.”

The People Behind McCormack Innovation
Brian McCormack – Managing Director, Founder and Inventor
McCormack Innovation is the brainchild of inventor and entrepreneur Brian McCormack.
Born and raised in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, Brian epitomises the hard-working Scottish ethos. He left school at 15 and worked between coal mines and the development of sewage tunnels for about 20 years. Brian initially worked above ground before taking to the harsh coalface by the age of 16.
With entrepreneurialism running hard through him, Brian later ran and then sold a taxi business.
His inspiration for McCormack Innovation and the creation of a dissolving textile was developed out of necessity. When he first received his bowel screening test kit in the post he could immediately see that a proper stool collection method should be part of this.
He then went about developing what now is the safe and convenient way in which to take stool samples. It soon became apparent that a major application of this product would be in hospitals and clinics and through pharmacies for home use.
Brian is the inspiration and driving force behind McCormack Innovation and its exciting future development.
