Some of the world’s most innovative logistics operators are being invited to compete for the Logistics Emissions Reduction Scheme (LERS) Awards 2019. The awards presentation will take place at the FTA Multimodal Awards on the evening of 18 June 2019 at the VOX at Resorts World at the NEC.

The two award categories are:

Leadership in fleet efficiency – sponsored by Bridgestone
The operator with the most efficient operation

Excellence in innovation – sponsored by ExxonMobil
The operator with the most innovative project using alternative fuels, going beyond the use of diesel

The LERS Awards celebrate the efforts that members of the scheme are making to reduce emissions from freight transport. By working to improve fuel efficiency, use green fuels and technologies, develop cleaner innovations and switch to rail and water, logistics companies are showing that they can play their part in tackling the climate change challenge.

Rebecca Kite, Environment Policy Manager at FTA, commented: “These awards celebrate the “best of the best”, the companies setting a positive example to the industry and paving the way for a brighter, greener future. LERS members never fail to impress us with their determination to reduce the emissions from their operations. We are thrilled to have this platform to publicly recognise the companies going above and beyond for our environment; we invite anyone committed to emission reduction to apply.”

The average emissions from LERS members are close to 13 per cent lower per vehicle km than the industry average, showcasing what can be achieved with determination and the right support.

Terry Salter, Bridgestone’s North Region Truck & Bus Product Manager, said: “The Logistics Emissions Reduction Scheme continues to be one of Bridgestone’s most significant partnerships as we keep working to reduce emissions in the logistics sector. The LERS Awards celebrate best practice in this area and we look forward to seeing the great work being carried out by the commercial automotive industry.

“Bridgestone is continuing to work towards greener solutions, reducing emissions and offering compelling fuel-efficient products to our customers, so we have a lot in common with LERS and many of the companies associated with the awards.”

Any company that is a member of the LERS is eligible to apply for the Awards, which provide an excellent opportunity for members, no matter what size their fleet or company, to earn recognition for reducing emissions through different operational actions.

The LERS is a free-to-join scheme which helps members record, reduce and report emissions. Full details on the scheme and how to apply for the awards are available at http://lers.org.uk/home/lers-awards The closing date for entries is 24 May 2019.

Efficient logistics is vital to keep Britain trading, directly having an impact on more than seven million people employed in the making, selling and moving of goods. With Brexit, new technology and other disruptive forces driving change in the way goods move across borders and through the supply chain, logistics has never been more important to UK plc. A champion and challenger, FTA speaks to Government with one voice on behalf of the whole sector, with members from the road, rail, sea and air industries, as well as the buyers of freight services such as retailers and manufacturers.
