Commenting on the Committee on Climate Change update report on meeting the UK’s Carbon Budgets, published today, Roz Bulleid, Head of Climate & Environment Policy at EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, said:
“Industry has been urging government to clarify its plans to meet the UK’s 2030 climate target for more than six months. The decarbonisation of the UK economy represents a significant challenge for more energy intensive manufacturers who need to see an affordable route to a lower-carbon future if they are to remain internationally competitive.
“At the same time, manufacturing companies in low-carbon supply chains want to know what market conditions they will face into the 2020s. The sooner the government can provide a clear sense of how it hopes to deliver the target while supporting the UK economy the better.”
